DIY Wedding Invitation Kits – What to Look For When Buying One
When planning a wedding, making your own invitations may be a great way to go if you want to save some money. However, there are still a lot of options and you need to know what exactly it is you are looking for when you purchase DIY wedding invitation kits. There are many places you can get them, such as your local craft stores or several different websites.
Pre-Decorated Invitation Kits
Many of the kits come pre-decorated to some extent, and you print your own text on them using your computer and printer. There are a lot of choices between colors and styles, so make sure you have an idea of what sort of theme you are going for with your invitations. There are some that will come just in a plain white, or with a little bit of decoration around the edge, allowing you to add your own graphics or designs. If you think you’d like to design something yourself, one of the plainer cards may be the way to go.
While there are some that are extremely inexpensive, they may come with only the invitation cards and not even have envelopes provided.
At the very least, most brides want invitations, envelopes, response cards, and response card envelopes. Some kits come with other extras too, such as reception cards or even matching menus.
While making your own invitations will almost always save you money, if you get carried away you can end up spending more money than you would if you purchased pre-made invitations from one of the more inexpensive companies. Keep that in mind when you’re trying to decide if you want to spend a lot more for the DIY invitations with the fancy ribbons or charms attached. Also consider if those are items you could add to the invitation yourself after buying the kit.
Cost of Postage
Another thing to keep in mind with all of the little extras is how much the postage will cost. Even if an invitation looks beautiful, if it’s really irregularly shaped, is really heavy, or has a lot of items attached to it then it will probably cost more per invitation to mail. These prices can really add up, so be aware of that when you are looking at different diy wedding invitation kits.
