Casual Wedding Invitation Wording

Invitations are one of the most important parts of a wedding – without them, who would know where to go? Invitations do not have to be overly formal or stuffy, and casual wedding invitation wording can help a couple give their guests a very warm invite to a less formal affair.

There are many ways to phrase wedding invitations to make them less formal. One easy way is to just use less formal language, and make invitations more personal with common, welcoming words. There is no need for stuffy invitation wording, like “Mr. and Mrs. Bride’s Parents and Mr. and Mrs. Groom’s Parents invite you to share in the ceremony uniting their children, Bride and Groom, on Date, at half past eight o’clock in the evening…” in today’s wedding invitations.

Instead, invitations may start with a poetic verse before simply asking for the presence of the individual or couple:

“Love isn’t love ’til you give it away . . .
Bride & Groom
will be married
on Sunday, January 9, 2011.
You are invited to this wedding
celebration at
6:30 p.m. at
the Anytown City Park”

Today’s modern weddings and receptions commonly feature themes based on things couples enjoy. Some couples choose wedding themes based on common interests, such as the outdoors or western motifs, while others include activities they enjoy together or reference the way they met. For example, a couple that enjoys golfing together, or who met while golfing, could use casual wedding invitation wording like:

“We’ve paired up, and are playing through!

Please join us,
Bride & Groom,
on our wedding day
as we turn a stroke of luck
into a winning streak!
Wedding Date,
Wedding Time,
Wedding Location”

Finally, a casual wedding invitation can also reference the chosen venue, rather than only listing the wedding location in the text. An example of this follows, using an outdoor, beach-themed wedding:

“Life’s a beach!
Please join us at the seaside and
help us set sail on a journey of love!
Date, Time

Bride & Groom”

When it comes to casual wedding invitation wording, there are no limits on what can be done or said. A little creativity is all it takes to create a perfectly-worded and casual invitation for every couple.
